Membership
The Meaning of Membership
- The church, formed by Christ through the Holy Spirit, draws new people and nurtures lifelong growth in grace. Baptism initiates incorporation into the church, and professing membership requires a visible profession of Christian faith and confirmation.
- Baptized infants and children are instructed in faith, rights, and responsibilities, culminating in their confirmation. Youth and adults seeking baptism are instructed and then baptized, confirmed, and received into the church.
- Formation in the Baptismal Covenant is a lifelong process, led by the pastor, preparing individuals for discipleship and mission.
- The Holy Spirit’s confirming action may be celebrated throughout life, distinct from the once-made covenant of baptism.
- Preparation for profession of faith and confirmation is available to all, with youth typically starting in the sixth grade.
